Seasonal variation in the diel activity of a dung beetle assemblage

چکیده
The seasonal and diel variations of dung beetle species were studied in an Iberian mid-mountain locality to examine the interaction between these two temporal rhythms. We assume that a variation activity would support notion both rhythms may assist achieving quick flexible response when climatic conditions change. Data coming from 4,104 pitfall traps placed during 15 sampling periods totalling 30 daily cycles analysed using circular statistics General Linear Models. A wide variety patterns are observed, highlighting those with clear unimodal or spring-autumn bimodal pattern. However, midday pattern is norm most species, except case exhibiting high body weight prefer dusk night periods. hypothesize fly at noon promote passive heating their muscle minimize metabolic energy expenditure. Results only partially activity. Diel preferences mainly manifested time year which abundance greater. Approximately two-thirds considered exhibit similar along active period. As consequence, significant portion currently inhabiting Mediterranean mid-mountains not able use limit inconveniences climate

متن کاملGreenhouse gas emissions from dung pats vary with dung beetle species and with assemblage composition
Cattle farming is a major source of greenhouse gases (GHGs). Recent research suggests that GHG fluxes from dung pats could be affected by biotic interactions involving dung beetles. Whether and how these effects vary among beetle species and with assemblage composition is yet to be established. To examine the link between GHGs and different dung beetle species assemblages, we used a closed cham...
متن کاملDung beetle assemblage structure in Tswalu Kalahari Reserve: responses to a mosaic of landscape types, vegetation communities, and dung types.
Tswalu Kalahari Reserve is a private game reserve covering 1,020 km(2) in the Northern Cape, South Africa. It has been created from a number of reclaimed farms and restocked with large indigenous mammals. Two surveys were conducted to inventory the dung beetle fauna (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae) and determine their spatial patterns and food type associations. The spatial survey used ...
متن کاملA 'metaphising' dung beetle.
You may have seen the film Microcosmos, produced in 1996 by the French biologists Claude Nuridsany and Marie Perrenou. It does not star humans, but much smaller creatures, mostly insects. The filmmakers’ magnifying camera transposes the viewer into the world of these organisms. For me, Microcosmos is not an ordinary naturalist documentary; it is an exercise in metaphysics. One sequence in the f...

heteropoly acids (hpa) and their salts have advantages as catalysts which make them both economically and environmentally attractive, strong br?nsted acidity, exhibiting fast reversible multi-electron redox transformations under rather mild conditions, very high solubility in polar solvents, fairly high thermal stability in the solid states, and efficient oxidizing ability, so that they are imp...
